Sales And Marketing Technique

by Linda Alexander

Packaging products together is a powerful sales and marketing technique that that will add value to your product and trigger people to buy. The idea behind package deals is to combine products together and offer them at a lower price than you would pay if the products were purchased individually. Discounting this way increases perceived value along with benefits--it saves money in the long run and provides a good balance of value and benefits in the mind of your customer.

Popular Sales and Marketing Techniques

Fast food restaurants often offer "value meals," which are package deals. Travel, where a vacation is "all-inclusive," is another industry that frequently uses bundling to improve value. Amazon.com makes good use of guerrilla marketing online with bundling--often when you order one book, they will offer you another book at a combined discount price. It isn't hard to see why this sales and marketing technique works so well.

Sales and marketing techniques are a psychological contest in the mind of the customer. What customers perceive to be a better value is the side that will win. Remember, too, that value is based more on perception than reality. So price is not necessarily the deciding factor--value is what will convince your customers to buy. To increase value, you must lower your price, increase your benefits, or increase benefits more than you increase your price.

If you don't have multiple related products or services, you might consider a joint venture with another company. For instance, if you are a graphic designer, you might partner with a writer to offer web content as well. Or if you do tax services, you could partner with a bookkeeper to offer both services at a discount. In effective marketing, you must ultimately increase the value for your customer because that is what makes them choose you over your competitors.
