Atlanta Golf

by Donald Sparacin

In Atlanta golf courses are everywhere! Boasting over 100 public courses within Atlanta and its surrounding area, Atlanta golf offers something for every skill level and budget. Most of the public courses are well-maintained, relatively easy to walk, and while each has a challenging hole or series of holes, most will allow you to feel good about yourself when you're enjoying a refreshing drink at the "nineteenth" hole.

Featured Atlanta Golf Courses
With about 150 public, private, and military courses, it's difficult to highlight just a few Atlanta golf courses, but here are our picks for courses within the city itself. Bobby Jones Golf Course is set on a hilly terrain, so expect to hit from several uneven lies. Water will only come into play on three holes of this inexpensive, fairly easy to play (slope is 116 from the white tees) course that was named after Atlanta's most famous golfer. Enjoy views of the City of Atlanta from the ninth tee, but you won't see the green down this narrow fairway lined both sides by tall trees.

For a little bit more of a challenge, you can play North Fulton Golf Course. Here water comes into play on four holes thanks to this Atlanta golf course's two lakes. This 6301 yard, par 71 course has a slope of 121 from the white tees and is very easy on the wallet. If you tend to hook your tee shot, beware of the 18th, 446 yard, par 4. It's got a creek running the entire left side of the fairway, then you'll be hitting up to a small elevated green that a sadist has surrounded by bunkers.

The most difficult Atlanta golf course featured here is the par 71, 6334 yard, Lakeside Golf Club. Until 1991 this George Cobb designed course was strictly private. It still maintains a dress code (no denim or tee-shirts) and is the highest priced of our featured Atlanta golf courses. You'll find water coming into play on five holes and all of the fairways are tree lined. With a white tee slope of 131, you'll find this Atlanta golf course to be an enjoyable challenge.
