Catholic Singles

Written by Jeremy Horelick

Catholic singles looking to meet fellow Catholic singles can choose from an array of online services dedicated to matchmaking among religiously like-minded individuals. While a shared background can be an excellent ice-breaker in the early going, it's generally not enough to sustain a burgeoning relationship on its own. But start with two people from radically different religious upbringings, and that couple will have to work even harder to overcome their differences.

Just as there are online dating services with predominantly black, Jewish, gay, Latino, Asian, and senior citizen clientele, so too are there agencies that pair up Catholic singles. In recent years, other sects of Christianity such as Pentecostals and Adventists have grown so rapidly that they've helped turn Catholics into an even smaller minority. As a result, the bonds that these single Catholics share have become even stronger, leading many to seek out friends, dates, and potential husbands and wives online.

More Catholic Singles Are Turning to the Web

The past couple of years have been trying ones for sworn Roman Catholics. The sex scandals throughout various archdioceses have turned many believers into "lapsed" Catholics who now find the church more or less irrelevant. Still, for some, heritage plays such a strong role that they feel most comfortable meeting others who've experienced their upbringing in Catholic schools and youth organizations such as the CYO.

For these Catholic singles, the Web represents the easiest way to contact others, set up dates, make new friends, or just chat online. Whether the conversation is primarily religious or wholly secular scarcely matters. The Internet has enabled more than just new dating methods; it has made the world substantially smaller by linking together people of all heritages, be they Roman Catholic or otherwise.
