Find A Friend Online

Written by Jeremy Horelick

If you've had no success meeting people in the "outside" world, you may want to try to find a friend online. Most matchmaking sites are equally committed to introducing their members in an entirely Platonic manner. After all, you can only have one husband or wife (usually), but you can countless friends.

Say you've just been offered a great new job in another city, or you're moving to a new town to be with your significant other. You may be excited by the prospect but secretly fearing how you'll make new friends. Most of us have never had to think about consciously going out and meeting people; we've been furnished with a steady stream of pals from nursery school on through college.

How To Find a Friend Online

To find a friend online, simply fill out your profile as you would if finding love were your goal. Now, instead of choosing "Seeking Men/Women To For Dating and/or More" opt for "Seeking Men/Women for Friendship." Now that your goal is openly stated, others can also find you as well. Don't be alarmed if a guy writes you and asks you out to a ballgame or bar; remember, this is what you've chosen.

If common interests aren't the engine for an online friendship, a shared ZIP code may be. Oftentimes, when people move to new cities, their immediate goal is to find a companion right in their own backyard, someone to show them the ropes and point out all the cool bars, theaters, and restaurants. Once you find a friend or two online, don't forget to keep up your efforts to make acquaintances away from your computer as well.
