Is there really such a thing as free cell phones? Since cellular technology and products are getting ever more high-tech and complex, how can companies offer free cell phones? Well, the answer is two-fold: you either get a very basic model, or your free phone comes bundled with a calling plan.

Why Companies Offer Free Cell Phones

You can get free phones from most of the major companies--Verizon, Cingular, etc--just for signing up with a special calling plan. Usually, these phones are overstock, or outdated models. Wait a minute--outdated?

The thing is, some people can't wait to get their hands on the latest technologies the second they come out. Camera phones, for example. Cell phones are some of the most cycled-through products on the electronics market.

For those of us who just want a reliable, basic model, this is great news. Those phones that don't have the latest gimmicks are often given out free, upon signing up. In ororder to find the best plans, check around on the Internet and compare the offers available.
