Platinum Jewelry

by Serena Berger

Platinum jewelry is becoming increasingly popular as people become more aware of the beauty and luster of platinum. The most popular form of platinum jewelry at this time is the wedding ring or wedding band, as men in particular like the weight of the metal. Couples also like the symbolism of its rarity and value when crafting the rings which are the symbol of their love and commitment.

Of course, it is possible to use platinum to make many other kind of jewelry. It can be used to set gem stones, and it is also becoming popular as a material to make chains for necklaces and earrings. It is the most expensive metal on the jewelry market, but for its purity and luster, it is widely considered well worth the price.

More about Platinum Jewelry

Platinum is a white metal, similar in color to white gold. Unlike gold, however, which cannot be used in it pure form to make jewelry, platinum can be used in a form which is approximately 95% pure. Most importantly for some, platinum is a completely hypoallergenic material.

Platinum is extremely durable, so platinum jewelry will last for many generations. You should, however, take basic care with your platinum jewelry, washing it occasionally with mild soap and water and drying it with a soft cloth. You should also store it apart from other jewelry to prevent scratching.
