Medal Winning Sports SpeakersMedal winning sports speakers have some of the most inspiring stories in the world of sports. These are people who made their names as amateurs, training hard often just for the love of the game. Gold medalists can honestly say that they were the best in the world at what they did. How many of us can ever hope to make such a bold statement? Skiing great Picabo Street won her gold in the super giant slalom at the 1998 Winter Games in Nagano, Japan. The victory was hard-fought. Just one season before, on Friday the 13th, a training-run crash tore the ACL in Picabo's left knee, but she battled back for a dramatic victory. Born in Triumph, Idaho, young Picabo was known only as "Little Girl" for her first two years. Her parents wanted her to name herself. The name Picabo finally stuck, a combination of her beloved peek-a-boo and a town in Idaho. In Shoshone Indian language, "Picabo" means "Shining Waters." Picabo started ski racing at age 7. She didn't have a TV till age 13. Skiing was her focus. Medal Winning Sports Speakers Make Success RealMedal winning sports speakers like Picabo Street often have unconventional and fascinating tales to tell. Think of Bruce Jenner, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Dara Torres, or Mark Spitz--medal winning sports speakers who are all regulars on the circuit. The road to the gold medal is never a simple one. No matter what business audiences are in, it is hard not to derive lessons for success from these great athletes. ![]() Get all Events articles via
