Air Filters
Cartridge FiltersCartridge filters are a general term for a type of air purifying filter defined by their shape. For example, cartridge air filters are to be distinguished from hammock air filters, which are cut to fit and come in the shape to fit the hammock-style filter frame. Cartridge-style filters are a very common type of air purifier filter and can be found throughout the home, office, and even in industrial machinery and applications. For the purposes of this site, however, I will confine my discussion of cartridge filters for home air purifying uses. There are different kinds of air purifying equipment for the home. First are the individual, compact air purifiers such as those you can find at mall stores like The Sharper Image. These purifiers vary in quality and price, but the best ones tend to be effective only for individual rooms. They cannot do the job of filtering airborne impurities from the entire house. The Necessity of Cartridge FiltersFor that task, it is necessary to install an air filtration unit into the furnace or air conditioning system. These systems are also called forced heat and cooling systems, and they almost demand a good filtration program. The reason is that the physical force used in circulating the air throughout the house can stir up a lot of particulate matter that can be irritating to the respiratory system. Cartridge filters for these systems need to be replaced every so often to ensure effectiveness. Plus, home interiors in general, like those of the workplace and nearly any other indoor area, are notoriously poor in air quality to begin with. Many people are surprised by this fact, but it's true. We never suspect that the air we breathe indoors is often more polluted than the air outside. For this reason, for virtually any household or workplace, air filters that trap foreign particles, such as dust, mildew and mold, dander, and pollen, as well as chemical fumes, are a must for healthy living. ![]() Get all Industrial Supplies articles via
