Pollenex

by Rachel Arieff

Pollenex is the brand name for a popular indoor air cleaner. Air purifiers are becoming more commonly used these days, and the public has accordingly become more savvy about air purification systems. This may be due in part to recent EPA reports about the dismal quality of indoor air. In a nutshell, the reports state that indoor air quality is five times worse than that of outdoor air.

This includes even dirty metropolitan air. How could this happen? Part of it is due to the structure of modern homes. As construction becomes more energy-conscious and thereby energy-efficient, the result has been less drafty, more airtight homes. That's great for conserving warm or air-conditioned air, but terrible for air circulation, which all humans need for good respiratory health.

What Pollenex Does

Add to that the fact that every home normally contains billions of microscopic particles resting on surfaces and floating in the air. These particles are considered contaminants and don't belong in the lungs, but unavoidably end up there if they're not filtered from the air. Examples of common household particles include mold and mildew, dust, even animal and human dander (hair and dead skin cells).

Pollen is also on this list. Pollen is one of the most common allergens known, triggering mild to severe reactions in sensitive individuals. Though it originates outdoors, pollen inevitably finds its way into home. For this reason, special air filtering systems, such as Pollenex, have been designed to remove pollen. If you own a Pollenex unit, cheap replacement filters can be purchased over the Internet.
