Tandem Skydiving InformationTandem skydiving information leads in one of two directions. One is learning skydiving. The other is advanced skydiving techniques. Which you take is up to you. You're new to the sport and think you might want to try, just once, jumping out of an airplane, freefalling through a clear blue sky, and landing safely on the ground. There are three methods taught at skydiving schools, called drop zones. These instructors are both certified as instructors and experienced jumpmasters. Basic Tandem Skydiving InformationThe tandem skydiving information you learn at drop zones will be the most accurate, the most detailed, and the most important. In sum, the technique sends the novice and the instructor on the jump and descent, landing as a pair. The two are attached by their harnesses. The jumpmaster directs the freefall and controls the shared master parachute. The jumpmaster manipulates the opened chute and oversees the landing. Beyond the first jump or series of progressive training jumps, tandem skydiving is usually called formation skydiving. In it, a group of experienced skydivers jump in concert and free fall together. The group can be as few as three or as large as perhaps 20. Formation skydiving, essentially similar to synchronized swimming in the air, is one of the three basic disciplines of advanced skydiving. The other two are freestyle diving and accuracy landing. Skydiving clubs at drop zones are probably your best first resource in beginning to gather more advanced tandem skydiving information to help you advance in the sport. ![]() Get all Skydiving articles via
