Finished Needlepoint Pillows

Finished needlepoint pillows look so nice in a baby's room, as a throw pillow on the sofa, or as a decorative accent on a bed or bedroom chair. Finished needlepoint pillows are one of the most popular uses for needlepoint projects today. The edges can be finished easily.

Finishing your needlepoint is not difficult although it may take you a few tries. While cross stitch rarely needs blocking, needlepoint can get out of shape as you stitch it. Therefore, when making your finished needlepoint pillows, you may have to reshape the fabric (blocking) before you add it to the pillow.

Blocking Finished Needlepoint Pillows

Wash your work and allow it to dry thoroughly before blocking it. Make sure you have cut it precisely along all 4 sides, otherwise, trim it now. Then dampen the piece with a squirt bottle of water. Using your hands and a t-square, stretch the piece back into a square shape, pinning it face down on your ironing board into the perfect square shape. Then allow it to dry thoroughly again.

You can use a presscloth to iron out any creases, though you shouldn't have any. To finish the piece as a pillow, be sure your seams are stable and there is no unworked canvas showing at the sides. To do this, work three "sacrifice rows" of background, past the area bordered in the pattern.
