Triangle MLS

by Helen Glenn Court

You want your realtor to be a member of the Triangle MLS if you're looking at North Carolina real estate. A subsidiary of the Raleigh Regional Association of Realtors, the primary service of the MLS is a database of active listings of homes for sale in the Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill area. The area is home to three universities--the world-renowned Duke University, the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and North Carolina State University--and the well-known Research Triangle Park.

What does the name signify? The triangle portion refers to what you might already be familiar with, the geographic triangle of three midstate North Carolina towns. These include the capital Raleigh, Durham (about 28 miles north northwest) and Chapel Hill (about 32 miles northwest). The MLS portion is the standard real estate acronym for a multiple listings service.

The Doors that Triangle MLS Can Open

An invaluable resource for realtors, Triangle MLS information covers 16 counties in the triangle area. Its database averages more than 12,000 active listings of homes for sale. Annual totals number approximately 38,000. It also offers 15 years of history on properties and statistical support data for real estate in those 16 counties.

For the buyer, Triangle MLS opens the way into North Carolina's Piedmont. This central swath of the state enjoys four distinct seasons but moderate temperatures and more than 200 days of sunshine on average each year. Most of its 600-plus golf courses are in the Heartlands, including the famed Pinehurst to the southeast.
