Chapel Hill Real Estate
Raleigh Durham HomesYour choice among Raleigh Durham homes might be a longer decision than you'd have thought. This is not because real estate isn't available or desirable. In the middle of the rolling hills of North Carolina's Heartlands, the triangle of Raleigh and Durham and Chapel Hill presents a singular place to settle. It is deemed one of the more desirable, safe and affordable places in the country to live and work and study. Raleigh Durham homes offer both settled historic neighborhoods and newer developments. Each city, though they are only 28 miles apart, has its own distinctive character. Raleigh was founded as the state capital in 1792 and continues to revolve around politics. Durham arose at a railroad junction in the mid-1860s and is now best known as the city of medicine and the home of the world-renowned Duke University. Neighborhoods for Raleigh Durham HomesIn Raleigh the neighborhoods are found by quadrant. North Raleigh is both the city's most rapidly developing area and sought after. Homes there run the full range from $100,000 to perhaps $2 million. East Raleigh offers the Hedingham golf course community and more moderate family homes. To the west near Research Triangle Park are the more affluent neighborhoods. Also to the west are the university neighborhoods of Trinity Square, Cameron Village and Hillsborough Street. Prices are moderate. Durham's oldest neighborhood is West Durham, first known as Pin Hook. Other distinctive areas include its Fayetteville Street to the southeast. Once popular with prominent African American professionals, it is now a concentration of charming bungalows of the 1920s and on the list for the National Register of Historic Places. Your choice among Raleigh Durham homes might indeed be more difficult that you had envisioned. ![]() Get all North Carolina Real Estate articles via
