Raleigh Properties

by Helen Glenn Court

The variety among Raleigh properties is wide when it comes to finding your dream home amidst the rolling hills of North Carolina's Piedmont. The area--with its three major universities, three urban areas and Research Triangle Park-- is attractive to both retirees and active professionals. You'll need to define the priorities on your wish list for your realtor to be able to help you most efficiently.

You're already aware of the many reasons that North Carolina has grown so attractive to so many for so many different reasons. CNN's Money magazine called the Piedmont's Triangle area one of the top desirable areas nationwide for both work and retirement. There are four seasons and a temperate climate. The Smoky Mountains to the west and the Outer Banks to the east are both within reasonable driving range.

Your Choices among Raleigh Properties

As the state capital, founded on 1,000 acres along the Neuse River in 1792, Raleigh is composed of a number of neighborhoods. Each has its own distinct style and atmosphere. They are all convenient to public transportation and most amenities. But you'll be choosing among them.

In downtown Raleigh are the condominiums in the old warehouse district known as Cotton Row. Several other neighborhoods of central Raleigh offer traditional family homes, from historic Oakwood to Mordecai to Boylan Heights. North Raleigh is a rapidly growing area and offers a very wide range of older homes in the North Ridge neighborhood to much newer and some upscale houses in Devon and Old Creedmore and other neighborhoods. East Raleigh properties include those in the Hillsborough golf community and moderately priced homes. West Raleigh properties center around North Carolina State University. Condos, town houses and traditional family homes are all available.
