Camaro collectibles command a huge following because of the legions of loyal Camaro enthusisasts. The Chevrolet "pony car" hit the market in 1967 to do battle with the hugely successful Ford Mustang. Like the Mustang, which was based on the smaller Ford Falcon, the Camaro was based on the Chevy Nova. The great-looking Camaro was an instant success and its production continued 35 years, through three distinct models, until 2002.

The first model Camaro was a great car right out of the gates. It paired a lean, aggressive shape with performance packages called Rally Sport (RS) and Super Sport (SS) to create a very potent street car. Also introduced in limited numbers was the famous Z/28 model, intended at the time for racing.

The glory days of the first generation Camaro are well-preserved in die cast scale replicas available through several top model companies. Especially desirable Camaro collectibles include the Z/28 edition from all model years and the special edition "Yenko" Camaros. These high-performance machines (about 1000 in all) were shipped first to Yenko Chevrolet in Pennsylvania, where they were tuned to produce huge power with great handling.

Camaro collectibles are so popular because they commemorate one of America's great performance cars. During its glory days in the late '60s, early '70s, and '90's, it was the top American musclecar. I've seen some incredible die cast models from each of those time periods.

My favorite Camaro of all time is the black Yenko SS, and you can find some great die cast scale replicas of that beast.
