Cayo Largo

Cayo Largo del Sur is a large island south of the island of Cuba and about 100 miles south of Havana. It's become a premier holiday destination, with 15 miles of pure, powdery beach and calm, turquoise sea. The only villages are built for tourists, but they are low, scenic hotels, with air-conditioned thatch-roofed huts.

Cayo Largo has restaurants, bars and discos, but all in a natural, island setting. The sea is calm and sheltered, so the snorkeling and scuba diving are excellent. Playa Tortuga beach, on the eastern part of the island, is a nesting area for marine turtles.

The shallow water makes Cayo Largo an ideal beach resort for families. Small children can play in the water all day without parents worrying about large waves, wind, or deep water. You can walk for miles in the shallow water.

Other activities are available in Cayo Largo. Horseback riding, sailing, tennis and surfing are popular, as well as wind surfing and bicycling. As a Cuba vacation spot, Cayo Largo is voted one of the best.
