Oxycontin AddictionOxycontin addiction has seeped into America's collective consciousness over the past few years. The media has shared stories of those whose lives were either destroyed or ended by the prescription drug. Also, celebrities have admitted to Oxycontin addiction, and this, of course, caused the media to flood the airwaves news stands with information on the drug and the problems that can arise from its use. Oxycontin, a brand form of oxycodone, is a time-release narcotic analgesic prescribed for those who suffer chronic, severe pain. In its natural state, the drug's effects can be quite strong, but when the pill is broken the time-release aspect disappears, causing the full power of the medication to hit the user rapidly. This property has made Oxycontin all the rage at all the raves around the country, as America's youth has found another drug to throw into its glow-in-the-dark backpack. Treatment for Oxycontin AddictionAs more users of all ages emerge, treatment of the disease has been put front and center. Many traditional rehabilitation clinics approach Oxycontin addiction as they approach other drug addictions. They treat it with a combination of psychological therapy and medication. The medication, however, is generally not used to battle the physical addiction present in the user, it is merely prescribed to combat the symptoms of withdrawal. Some specialists believe that the actual physical addiction one has to Oxycontin can be treated rapidly and successfully. Using a technique called Accelerated Neuro-Regulation (ANR) they cleanse the brain of the drug while the patient is under anesthesia. Upon waking, the physical addiction and the withdrawal from it have passed, and the patient can be released within forty-eight hours. ANR has gained validity over the past decade as it has enjoyed a high success rate in treating those who suffer from Oxycontin addiction and addiction to other prescription and non-prescription drugs. ![]() Get all Detoxification articles via
