To boost immune system health, alternative cancer practitioners recommend several natural substances. Our immune system is the basis for our ability to resist and endure attacks from bacteria and viruses that take advantage of any weakness in the immune system to make inroads in the body. An ailing immune system is an invitation to illness of one sort or another.

One problem with chemotherapy is that it attacks both abnormal and normal cells, thus damaging the cancer patient's immune system further. Coenzyme Q10 May Boost Immune System Health

Coenzyme Q10 is a natural substance produced by the body that cells use to make the energy necessary for cell growth. The body also makes use of this substance as an antioxidant, which protects cells from harmful chemicals called free radicals. The damage done to cells by free radicals may contribute to the development of cancer. Coenzyme Q10 is sold in this country as a dietary supplement, so it is one of the affordable cancer treatments that is included in alternative therapy.

Animal studies indicate that coenzyme Q10 shows promise of protection against damage from a mainstream anti-cancer drug, but there have been no controlled studies done in human beings that have been reported in mainstream medical journals. Some famous alternative cancer remedies include the Gerson therapy developed in the 1930s by a doctor whose treatment emphasizes organic, vegetarian meals and vitamins, enzymes, and hormones to boost immune system health. Essiac tea is another famous formula. Neither of these has been tested in clinical trials, so mainstream organizations do not recommend them except as possible adjuncts to orthodox cancer treatments.
