Day night rifle scopes offer hunters and marksmen the ultimate versatility. Not all day night rifle scopes are created equal, however. Make sure your day night scopes perform as well or better at night than any other brand of night vision rifle scopes. Otherwise, you're wasting your money.

Day Night Rifle Scopes: Changing from Day to Night

Good day night rifle scopes should change from day function to night function very quickly, and very easily. Ideally, you should be able to make the turnover in less than one minute. These are military and law enforcement grade scopes. Military personnel and law enforcement officers can't afford to take their eyes off the target so that they can focus on changing over their equipment. They need equipment that changes over very smoothly and easily.

The higher the generation of night vision optics, the better. In other words, Generation 2 scopes are better than Generation 1 scopes; Generation 3 are better than Generation 2; and so on. However, be warned that each step up in generation is reflected in a significant step up in price.

That's why Gen. 1 scopes and goggles are still the most popular in the world, despite the fact that they are the oldest models, and the weaker technology. The point is, Gen. 1 is "good enough" for most people. It may not work as well as succeeding generations, but it works extremely well, and costs about 10 to 20 percent as much as the other generations.
