Carb CaloriesCarb calories are basically the calories you get from foods that contain carbohydrates. One gram of carbs contains approximately four calories, which can help you figure out how many calories you are getting from carbs when you eat certain foods. If you look at the label on food packages, it will tell you the amount of carbs in that food. For example, a snack size bag of pretzels might contain 18 grams of carbs. If you want to figure out how many carb calories are in pretzels, you can simply multiply 18 by 4 to get 72 calories. Many people who are trying to eat only low carb foods use this formula to keep their carb intake at a minimum. However, it is so important to realize that in order to lose weight and keep it off permanently, you need to reduce your overall caloric intake and exercise on a regular basis. It does not matter if you are getting all your calories from carbs or from protein, because if you are ingesting too many calories, you will gain weight regardless of the where you got your calories.
