Microdermabrasion Equipment
Microdermabrasion MachineA microdermabrasion machine allows the dermatologist, aesthetician or other practitioner to gently remove the top layer of skin cells by mechanical rather than chemical means. Dead cells are removed as they are in a chemical peel, and the newly visible layer of the epidermis looks fresh and healthy. Since it does not remove cells at such a deep level as laser treatments or chemical peels, a microdermabrasion machine has only a slight reddening of the skin as an after effect. How a Microdermabrasion Machine WorksExfoliation is achieved by bombarding the skin with a steady stream of tiny particles, either aluminum oxide or sodium bicarbonate, at high speed. These crystals are driven forward through the inner section of a double-walled tube by an accelerator. The outer section of the tube delivers suction, which pulls back the crystals, dead cells and debris, depositing them in a sealed container. The microdermabrasion machine is, in effect, a tiny sandblaster. The top layer of cells is removed, revealing the fresher, healthier skin below. Initial treatment results in brighter skin, minimized pores, and a more even skin tone. Repeated treatments are needed to polish away fine lines, especially around the eyes and lips, and minimize scars and pitting resulting from acne. Microdermabrasion is fast becoming a treatment of choice. The procedure is painless, with no burning sensation such as is felt with chemical peels. Since only the very top layer is removed, there is also no need for the recovery time and after treatment associated with chemical exfoliation. ![]() Get all Skin Care articles via
