Wrinkle Removal

by Sarah Provost

Wrinkle removal is one of the primary concerns of those who wish to keep their skin looking young and beautiful. A few lines are unavoidable and even desirable, to avoid an unnatural appearance. But we'd all like to know how to avoid looking like a shar-pei by the time we're in our fifties.

True wrinkle removal is only possible through drastic measures such as deep chemical peels or laser resurfacing. However, there are a number of things you can do to minimize the appearance of deep wrinkles and perhaps remove some of the finer lines. Wrinkles result from the loss of collagen as we age, combined with sagging muscles under the skin and dryness, which makes lines more apparent.

Home Treatments for Wrinkle Removal

Free or inexpensive home treatments for wrinkle removal include a veritable fruit salad of recipes. Banana, mango, green grapes and yogurt all contain enzymes and/or acids that soften and exfoliate the skin. Moisturizing is extremely important as we grow older, so you can keep your skin supple with creams or oils (except mineral oils or petroleum products, which can clog pores). Simply massaging your face with a few drops of olive oil at bedtime stimulates the circulation, tones the underlying muscles and moisturizes.

Clinical or spa treatments can make a real visible difference in a short time. Treatments for wrinkle removal include microdermabrasion, chemical peels and laser resurfacing. Microdermabrasion "sand-blasts" the skin with tiny crystals, which pulverize dead cells. Chemical and laser treatments burn off layers, and can range from very mild to very deep. The deeper the peel, the worse the side effects, so start with the minimum treatment that will give you results.
