Skin Blemish RemovalSkin blemish removal can markedly improve the quality of life for those who suffer from acne scarring, birthmarks, taleangiectasia (spider veins), cherry angiomas, distended capillaries or other disfiguring lesions. There are several ways to revise, diminish or remove these blemishes. Your dermatologist can advise you about which treatment is best for you. Vascular Skin Blemish RemovalSpider veins, cherry angiomas, varicose veins and distended capillaries can be treated in several different ways. In one method, an electric current is passed through the vein or capillary, coagulating the blood inside. The tissue is then absorbed back into the skin in a matter of several weeks. This procedure is called sclerotherapy. Possible side effects include pain and swelling in the area. Several treatments may be necessary, and the treated veins can recur. Laser therapy for skin blemish removal is an alternative treatment. The veins are "burned" closed, and reabsorb into the tissue as with sclerotherapy. Some scarring may occur, and depigmentation in people with darker skin. Laser therapy is also effective for removing tattoos and some birthmarks. For acne scars and other raised skin blemish removal, skin resurfacing might offer the best results. In this treatment, the upper layers of the epidermis are removed, either by abrasion or by chemical peel. When the new skin grows in, it will appear healthier and most scarring will be greatly diminished. Careful aftercare is needed with this process to prevent infection, and a sunscreen with a high SPF must be used at all times. ![]() Get all Skin Care articles via
