Organic Skin CareOrganic skin care is an extremely fast-growing segment of the beauty product industry. Just as modern consumers have become more knowledgeable about toxins and chemicals in their food, they have also come to demand purity in their beauty products. As the dangers posed by talc and other frequently used ingredients becomes common knowledge, the field can only grow faster. Reading about the ingredients used in standard skin care products is one good way to convince yourself to spend the extra money for organic skin care. A chemical used in car washes, to degrease garage floors and clean engines is also used in 90 percent of all skin care products that foam. Petroleum products block your pores, and the long list of additives may include allergens and carcinogens. Organic Skin Care Products Are Not Regulated by the FDAThe organic skin care industry regulates itself with labels. Those products labeled "100 percent organic" contain no ingredient that is not organic. Those labeled "organic" contain at least 95 percent organic materials and those labeled "made with organic ingredients" must contain at least 70 percent. However, since the FDA has declined to regulate non-food items, the door is open for unscrupulous manufacturers to misrepresent their products. For this reason, it's important to purchase your organic skin care products from a merchant you trust. Online shopping is an excellent way to compare claims, and most sites that sell organic products also post their ingredients list. There are enough toxins in the air we breath and the food we eat, so let's not slather them on our faces! ![]() Get all Skin Care articles via
