Nationwide paging is certainly a very convenient and inexpensive way to send and receive simple messages almost anywhere in the United States. Traditional paging, of course, is nothing more than text and/or numeric signaling, which makes it considerably less expensive than cell phones. The technology has been around for more than 25 years. It's established, reliable, and secure.

You might think that the expansion of cellular phone technology and coverage would have made both local and nationwide paging obsolete. This is by no means the case, however. For one thing--as one law enforcement officer stressed to me recently--pagers are far less intrusive than cell phones. You do not and cannot, if you're in medicine or law enforcement, turn your pager off. At the same time, during "off hours" or "off days," you can both remain on call, but not worry about being interrupted during personal time.

Connectivity is also far superior with paging systems. Because of the nature of how nationwide paging systems are used, systems are engineered to ensure reception. Think of hospitals and the doctors who never go without their pagers. Indoors and outdoors, no matter where, paging systems ensure that you get the message you need to get.

Finding Nationwide Paging Services

Vendors include PageNet, Verizon, and a good number of cellular phone providers. You can find others with a bit of online research. Comparing vendors and manufacturers--which include Motorola and Commandnet--is always a good idea, especially with advances in technology. Although the nuts and bolts use of pagers is sending and receiving text messages and numbers, features include alarms, clocks, address books, and more.
