Compact Fluorescent Bulbs

Much variety can be found in fluorescent light bulbs, and one of those forms is the appealing compact fluorescent light bulb. Many of us see fluorescent lights in the form of long tubes, providing sterile light for large spaces. However, modern technology has afforded us various shapes, sizes and colors of fluorescent light bulbs.

Compact fluorescent bulbs are especially fitted for small spaces because of their low heat production and efficient energy use. By using compact fluorescent bulbs in place of incandescent or halogen bulbs, one can save vastly significant amounts of energy, and reduce those high electricity bills. They use 75 percent less energy to produce the same amount of light as regular bulbs, and they produce less heat waste. Compact bulbs provide less wattage than regular fluorescent bulbs, for those times where you don't need as much light output.

So Why Isn't Every Device Using Compact Fluorescent Bulbs?

Compact fluorescent bulbs are more expensive to purchase per bulb, but consider this: The expense is paid back and then some because they can last years longer than the regular bulb. You won't have to worry about replacing them nearly as often as regular bulbs, especially if the lighting fixture is in a particularly inconvenient spot, such as a ceiling or a lamp tucked far back.

Also, as previously mentioned, the use of fluorescent bulbs in replacement of incandescent bulbs may turn off some people who know fluorescents as harsh, stale lighting. But compact fluorescent bulbs can now be found in almost every bulb of comparable shape, size and wattage. Despite common beliefs that fluorescent lighting is appropriate only for large, warehouse-like areas, fluorescent light bulbs can be used and adapted to many spaces.
