Magnets
Industrial MagnetsIndustrial magnets have a great many uses. You can see these magnets at work in an abandoned car lot. Have you ever seen those big machines, either live or on TV, that pick up entire cars? Well, they use a magnet. There is a giant magnet on the end of a crane that is strong enough to pick up tons and tons of weight. It is likely that this kind of magnet is an electromagnet. In an electromagnet, the attraction can be turned on and off. This is because the force is being created when an electric current is run through a wire. When the current is turned off, the magnetic force stops. Therefore, you can pick up a car, move it and release the current when you have moved the car where you want it to go. This comes in handy when you have to use magnets that are extremely strong. It would be almost impossible to pull the car from the magnet if you could not stop the force. Industrial magnets are also used for magnetic filtration systems. An example of this is when a coolant system in a car is cleaned using magnets. When looking for industrial magnets, there are a few main factors you will want to consider. Some of these are weight, width, length, thickness and height. You want to make sure your magnet is in proportion to what you are lifting, holding or moving. Industrial Magnets Get the Job DoneYou will also want to take a look at the coatings on magnets. You want to make sure you have the right one for what you will be doing. Some coatings can produce small flecks when used often, so you will want to consider this. Other coatings don't react well with certain other substances. Also, know what shape is best for your use. There are many, including block, sheet or slab, rod, powder, flexible strip, U-shaped or round. ![]() Get all Magnets articles via
