Matrix Switch
High FrequencyHigh frequency systems are among the most advanced RF systems out there--and among the most difficult to set up and maintain. On one hand, higher frequencies correspond to faster rates of transmission, which is undoubtedly a good thing for the user. Using such frequencies, however, presents a myriad of problems for the RF designer. One problem of high frequency signals is called "crosstalk." Crosstalk occurs when the signal from one port leaks into another port, thus causing unwanted interference. Think of it like a phone conversation during which you can hear a second conversation in the background. Annoying, isn't it? Actually, it's more than annoying--crosstalk can be disruptive to RF transfers. Another potential disruption comes in the form of reflection. A high frequency signal brings with it an electromagnetic field that can cause the signal to reflect back on down the line. Reflection leads to scratchy transmissions, and can sometimes become so powerful that it drowns out the original signal entirely. Materials for High Frequency SystemsAdvanced systems require advanced components, and luckily there are innovations made all the time in RF technology. Attenuators are one of the most valuable RF units, as they reduce the threat of reflection to a large extent. Many of the components needed when dealing with powerful transmissions are very complex, so most people turn to professionals to help them with product selection. ![]() Get all Attenuators articles via
