Decorative Mailboxes
Golf MailboxesDepending on how severely you're addicted to the game, golf mailboxes might well be on your checklist. There are, it seems, two types of people in the world. One rolls the eyes and shakes the head at the sound of the word. The other experiences that little electrical current running through the blood veins and envisions a fairway, a straight drive, a strong second shot, and a birdie putt that follows the break and drops in the hole without a second thought. It's an easy and pleasurable game. You're thinking about a golf mailbox at the end of your driveway. You're addicted, clearly. (It's not easy, it's a challenge. Witness all those clubs we can't see in the bottom of ponds.) Golf mailboxes, some might say, are a bit over the edge. I wouldn't know. I've stopped with the owl and pussycat headcovers for my woods and the walrus for my putter. Where to Find Golf MailboxesFortunately, for people like us there is an answer. Custom and decorative mailboxes are more and more popular with home designers and homeowners. They're a powerful design element as well as a utilitarian object. There's a market for any number of more traditional styles as well as novelty mailboxes. You'll have a choice as you shop the novelty mailbox offerings. Because the USPS does dictate a few parameters and specifications for mailboxes--primarily with mail delivery and postal carrier convenience in mind--there are two design approaches for custom mailboxes. One is to decorate the conventional rounded-top post-mount mailbox that stands at the end of your drive. Another is to build a USPS-approved container into some kind of superstructure, whether a column or post-mounted creation. (A streetside mailbox must stand between 42 and 48 inches from the ground, and within nine inches of the curb.) You'll find golf mailboxes in both styles.
