Healthy Lymph SystemA healthy lymph system is an important part of everyday life yet most people don't realize this until something goes awry. Since the lymph system is responsible for filtering out and destroying any unwelcome material in the body, a malfunctioning lymph system can be quite dangerous. Luckily there are a few things you can do to ensure your lymph system stays in tip-top shape. How to Maintain a Healthy Lymph SystemOne of the most important things you can do to maintain a healthy lymph system is limit your exposure to particularly harmful germs or bacteria. This does not mean we advocate you staying inside at all times and only leaving your home when clad in HAZMAT gear. But you can use common sense: wash your hands frequently, use an antibacterial soap, don't touch the door handle of the public restroom and then rub your eye, etc.. Another way to maintain a healthy lymph system is to eat healthy foods, most particularly, those foods that do not cause congestion. Too many sweets and highly refined foods (like dairy and excessive or partially digested proteins) and especially alcohol can cause problems. Limiting foods that fall into the aforementioned categories will leave your lymph system free to fight toxins, bacteria and other unwelcome substances. The lymph system can also be kept healthy through regular exercise. Whereas the circulatory system has a pump, the lymphatic system relies on your muscles to keep the lymph fluid flowing properly. Doing exercises that strengthen your muscles is therefore another way that you can keep up a healthy lymph system. ![]() Get all Lymphedema articles via
