When looking for a loft for sale in Boston, it is important to consider the additional costs that come with this form of housing. Although known for their sophisticated, contemporary designs, lofts require a good deal of work in order to be livable. Depending on the scope of the renovations, you can expect to spend thousands of dollars above and beyond the market closing price.

Most people who choose to buy a loft do so for two reasons. First, they are drawn to city life and are eager to keep restaurants, theaters, museums, and clubs close at hand. Second, they are taken with the aesthetic of loft living, in which minimalist architectural design allows for maximal artistic self-expression.

The Cost of Owning a Loft

For those with creative leanings, lofts are an ideal way to live comfortably in the heart of the city. Lofts tend to be small, relying on tasteful interior design to create separate rooms and a sense of space. Although you can accomplish a good deal with carefully chosen décor, more often than not, renovations are needed to make the average loft livable.

In addition to the cost of adding walls or partitions, you can expect to pay co-op fees and association dues. These need not deter you from buying, but you should have a clear sense of what your monthly expenses will look like before making a decision. Lofts can make for excellent long term investments, but you must choose wisely and understand the terms of the agreement at the outset.
