Kirkland Real Estate

by Helen Glenn Court

Convenient to Seattle and the entire Puget Sound area, Kirkland real estate is without question a solid financial investment. It is also--with coffee shop conversations ending around midnight, active civic groups, and an active lifestyle--a marvelous place to call home. Whether you're looking for a place to raise a family, or a base of your own in the Pacific Northwest, you can't go wrong here. On the one hand are the many recreational and cultural venues in Seattle. On the other is Kirkland's own healthy local economy, restaurants, marina, and up-scale residential neighborhoods.

Founded in 1888 and named for steel tycoon Peter Kirk when the city was incorporated in 1905, Kirkland real estate today encompasses 11 square miles and 5.75 miles of scenic Lake Washington shoreline. Today's community is indeed, and mercifully, a far cry from the Pittsburgh of the Pacific Northwest originally envisioned. Home to a remarkably well-educated population of about 46,000, Kirkland real estate is a great place to call home.

Regional attractions include the Puget Sound wine country and its 25-odd vineyards (including Kirkland's own Cavatappi Winery), the lighthouses of the Pacific Coastline, the long stretch of the Cascades Mountains, and, of course, the 14,410 imposing feet of Mount Rainier an hour to the southeast. Admittedly, this part of the world runs a bit short on sunshine, but the weather rap is worse than the reality. Just ask the hundreds of thousands of outdoor enthusiasts who are delighted to call the area home!

Several Not So Hard and Fast Facts on Kirkland Real Estate

Updated numbers from the last federal census put the number of residences in Kirkland at about 22,000, the median house value at about $295,000, and the average selling price at close to $650,000. A local realtor, of course, will be a godsend in helping your narrow your focus. After all, you've got hundreds of properties to look at, transportation and schools to consider, relocation issues, and countless other factors, all of which a local realtor can help you with.
