1 Carat Diamond Earrings

by Liza Hartung

1 carat diamond earrings are a perfect size to get when you can't decide. If you're debating that one size will look to small or one will look too big, I assure you, one carat will look just right. It fits right in the middle. When purchasing diamond earrings, there is something very important to know that most people are not aware of. Diamond earrings are sold as a set, obviously, but when someone tells you the weight, they are telling you the total weight.

That's right. When people refer to one carat diamond earrings, they mean that each earring is half of a carat. Don't feel like you're getting ripped off. This is the way it has always been. Trust me, half a carat per ear is a perfect size. If you aren't sure of how big a carat is, stop by a local jewelry store and ask to see. In addition, some online jewelry sites will have "shown actual size" photos of diamonds.

Weighing Down 1 Carat Diamond Earrings

Did you ever wonder where the term "carat" came from? Well, if you haven't, I'm about to tell you. It actually came from ancient times when people used the carob seed as a form of measurement. The amazing thing is that carob seeds are so alike from one to the next that modern technologies have only been able to detect a difference of three one-thousandths between any two.

When you go to purchase, know that bigger diamonds will be much more expensive than smaller ones. This is because smaller ones are uncovered more regularly than bigger ones. You can't make a big one out of two small ones. It just has to be found that way. Also, 1 carat diamond earrings will look bigger on someone who has small earlobes, and vice versa.
