Planning A Family Reunion

by Scott Martin

Planning a family reunion is a big job; one that requires a lot of organization, foresight and general hard work. There are many decisions that have to be made but with a bit of pre-planning, the process of planning a family reunion can be fun and creative. The most important thing is to remember to take it slowing. Set the date far enough away that you have plenty of time to plan.

The Process of Planning a Family Reunion

The first step to planning a family reunion is deciding what type of reunion you will have. Are you interesting in a very small reunion of only immediate family or are you looking for an all-inclusive family reunion of all relations? Do you want a quick event of a barbecue or picnic or a more involved trip such as a family weekend or week-long vacation?

Since most family reunions involve a large group of people, you'll want to ensure that the location you choose is large enough to accommodate everyone. Resorts, parks and beaches are good options that work well with large groups. It's nice to get everyone outdoors so they have the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors with the whole extended family.

Planning a family reunion certainly involves thinking about meals for everyone. Whether you have a day reunion or a whole week to celebrate, you should plan one main meal that is the focal point of the whole reunion. With this large meal, it's wise to employ a catering company to deal with the large number of people. An outdoor cookout or clambake is a great option and there are companies that will take care of the whole process for you. This main meal can be the climax of the whole family reunion celebration.
