Wedding Reception Sites

by Scott Martin

Selecting from the wide range of wedding reception sites can be an involved task, especially at the outset of your planning. In the beginning stages of wedding planning, it seems everyone reaches a level of frustration between the engagement and the actual decisions. For this reason, it's a good idea to ask yourself a few key questions, before settling on possible wedding reception sites.

Questions to Ask when Selecting Wedding Reception Sites

First of all, you'll want to consider the venue itself and its capacity. Is it a space you could work with when choosing decorations? Would your desired headcount easily fit into the hall? (For outdoor weddings, this will be less of a problem, of course.)

Secondly, you'll want to consider the location. Don't choose a difficult-to-find location, or you might find you have a full wedding and sparse reception. You'll also want to consider distance from the church site, as the further the two sites are, the less likely everyone will make it.

Finally, consider whether or not this venue meets your romantic dreams for this gathering. Did you have your heart set on a dance floor, only to discover there's hardly room to boogie? Is there a modern sound system, on which to play music for the guests? Were you hoping for a seaside view, or outdoor setting, or is the hall perfect for your needs? By asking yourself these questions up-front, you can pare down your choices, and proceed with more direction and confidence--into both your marriage and the ensuing reception.
