Avaya has technically only existed for about four years. The company was spun off in October of 2000, and has since been listed on the New York Stock Exchange with the symbol "AV." Previous to the spin-off, Avaya was a part of AT&T, Lucent, and Western Electric.

They have access to 1,600 patents secured by their predecessors at Bell Laboratories, and they use this technology to stay at the top of the corporate communications industry.
