Energy Conservation Products

by Robert Mac

Energy conservation products save you money while saving the world's precious, dwindling resources. Turning off the water while brushing your teeth isn't enough; it's a good start, but there is much more we can do. Buying, installing, and properly using energy conservation products are easy ways to cut back on waste and gratuitous spending.

Take, for instance, heating expenses. Each winter, heating expenses seem to rise like the hot air we are trying to keep inside the house--what are you doing, heating the whole neighborhood? Practical as they may seem, gas- and wood-burning fireplaces aren't as efficient as electric fireplaces: they require venting, which allows vital heat to escape.

Energy Conservation Products Like Electric Fireplaces Save Money

Telling people that certain products save energy may raise a few eyebrows here and there, but telling them they save money is a sure way to get their attention. Like electric fireplaces. They are 100 percent efficient because all the electric energy sent to them is converted to heat. (Of course, you can turn the heating element of these off, but we are talking about when they are set up to heat.)

Gas fireplaces aren't great energy conservation products because up to 50 percent of their potential energy is vented outside, not inside where it's needed. Getting an electric fireplace is only one step in the process; you can insulate and get double-paned windows to keep more heat inside during the cold months. When you save energy, you save money, plus you'll be saving a little place we like to call the world.
