Electric Fireplaces
Energy Saving ProductsEnergy saving products like extra-thick windows and hybrid cars not only save energy now, but they save money in the long run. Plus, they establish a great example for conservation that the entire planet could learn from; if we don't tighten our belts soon, we'll be in a world of hurt within a generation or so. But you don't have to buy an electric car to reap the benefits of energy saving products--you can get an electric fireplace. Most traditional wood-burning fireplaces create significant heat but could be more efficient. Think of all the hot air that is lost up the chimney: some of it heats the chimney, which radiates throughout the room, but most of it is wasted. The same is true of gas-burning fireplaces, stoves, and heaters: because it is a volatile gas, it has to be vented--along with much of the heat--outdoors. Use Energy Saving Products to Cut ExpensesIf saving energy isn't a good enough reason to switch to energy saving products, how about saving some money instead? Some electric fireplaces heat for about seven cents per hour, which is a dime less than what gas fireplace manufactures claim their products cost. Those dimes add up--in a year, that comes out to more than 800 dollars. In time, we will become more used to cutting back on wasteful habits and creating more conservative ones. Switching to more efficient products not only saves individuals dimes and quarters, but it saves the planet resources that can never be recovered. Any step in the right direction is a good one, and sooner or later we'll be closer to our goal of wiser energy use. ![]() Get all Fireplaces articles via
