Michigan Medicare Supplemental Insurance

by Norene Anderson

Michigan Medicare supplemental insurance plans are available in 10 standard plans. Each of these plans offer different benefits. These plans are identified as Plan A through Plan J. Regardless of the insurance company, the plan with the same letter will be the same. The premiums may vary some, but the coverage will be the same. Not all insurance companies offer all of the plans.

There is a big difference in plans for Michigan Medicare supplemental insurance. Plan A is basic with no frills and meets the needs of many Medicare recipients. Others prefer the added benefits in the remaining plans and will gladly pay the extra premium to be covered. The best coverage is from Plans E and J for preventive care.

More about Michigan Medicare Supplemental Insurance

If prescription drugs are a large expense, you will benefit from a Michigan Medicare supplemental insurance policy with either Plan H, I, or J. Plan J is beneficial if your annual drug cost exceeds $6,250 per year. After you pay the $250 deductible, you will only have to pay half of your drug cost or $3,000 of a $6,000 expense. If drug costs are less, one of the other Plans may work best for you.

You need to make sure there is not a limit on the amount of time you have to enroll in supplemental coverage for prescription drugs. In some cases, you are limited to within the first six months after signing up for Medicare Part B. Medicare and supplemental coverage is also available for qualifying disabled individuals.
