Arrays on which optical diskettes are stored enable fast document retrieval; they can be used for data that may be used in the near future. DVD is also a common medium for intermediate storage and backup solutions.

Businesses can save these files in tape libraries, which can store enormous amounts of information at fractions of the cost of purchasing more hard drive space. Tape arrays make data retrieval easy and expedient, but not as simple as recalling digitally stored information. Tape files are for information that will not, in all likelihood, be frequently needed.

The most user-friendly and efficient backup solutions automatically migrate information to appropriate storage spaces.
