Makena Properties

by Patricia Tunstall

Private Makena Properties

Not as varied as Kihei, and not as grand as Wailea, Makena properties appeal to those who love the natural, the scenic, and the tranquil. Set on the downslopes and beaches of Haleakala, which dominates the northern skyline, Makena homes are at the end of the paved coastal road in South Maui.

Visitors, therefore, are not passing through on their way to some place else. The beaches here are famous, and attract those who enjoy the relaxed, quiet atmosphere. As with all South Maui beaches, water activities are very popular. The clear, turquoise water is ideal for snorkeling and swimming with the green sea turtles that are abundant. Diving off Molokini, three miles from Makena, is a special treat. A marine sanctuary, Molokini is a crater visible only as a half-circle of land. Water visibility is about 100-200 feet, with water temperatures of 72-85 degrees!

Exquisite Living

Makena properties are small and distinctive. Each development is unique, with its own design and ambience. One Palauea Bay is a very exciting concept that will consist of 17 exclusive ocean-view homes, just steps from the beach. Created by a world-renowned architect, each home will have a singular design. As always with Makena properties, privacy and access to scenic vistas are paramount.

Makena real estate is exclusive, but it offers condominiums, single-family residences, and homesites. The "residential condominium" community of Makena Place is interesting because the 10 homesites are for custom, single family homes. Another interesting feature is that a caretaker lives and works on the site.
