Saunas, especially those that employ the use of steam, can also improve health through the act of detoxification. The amount of sweat that occurs in a steam sauna enables the body to rid itself of harmful toxins. People who experience chronic muscle pain or the joint stiffness caused by arthritis will also benefit from the soothing effect of the sauna's heat.

Most doctors will tell people who are extremely overweight that many health risks can be avoided through weight loss. They will codify this remark by stating the weight loss itself must be healthy. This is to deter people from latching onto whatever diet is insanely popular at the moment without looking at the risks involved.

Dry saunas, those that do not use steam, can help people improve health through weight loss. Calories can be burned quickly and without stress. The heat produced in these saunas is similar to body heat, so exposure to it is completely safe. However, like any weight loss practice, a sauna is only beneficial when it used properly. Prolonged sessions can lead to dehydration, exhaustion, or other problems.
