Portable SaunasWritten by Michael Federico Portable saunas have found their way onto boats and into vans. People, it seems, can't be apart from their saunas for too long. Not all portable saunas traverse the country on a regular basis, though. Most have found their place in people's homes, sometimes changing rooms, or heading out into the backyard on a starry night. The earliest saunas are believed to have been portable. Nomadic tribes who used sweat baths and tents for cleansing and spiritual purposes created saunas that could be easily transported. Today's portable saunas tend to be a bit heavier (some weigh 420 lbs.), but they can still be moved without too much difficulty. This appeals to many people, because they feel the sauna will be with them for a long time no matter where they move or travel. Types of Portable SaunasThe fact that a sauna is portable does not make it any less effective. Portable steam and dry saunas produce the same penetrating heat as permanent saunas. They also provide the user with the same health benefits, including detoxification and weight loss. Portable saunas can be wood, or they can be modular saunas made of varying materials. The wooden models are much more akin to traditional ones. The modules consist of a bench to sit on and a shell that one zips himself into. These are easily transported, but usually lack the accessories of other portables such as back rests and interior remote control. Most types of portable saunas can be built from kits, or they can be purchased from manufacturers. Didn't find what you were looking for?
