Sauna Construction

Written by Michael Federico

Sauna construction, in some cultures, is seen as a rite of passage. In countries like Finland, the art of sauna construction is taken very seriously. It is taught to each new generation in the hope that they will then pass it on to those who follow. Often, all of the materials needed will be gathered by the builder himself. He will choose the wood that will serve as the frame, and hand gather the stones that will serve as a steam source.

In America, the idea of sauna construction is not necessarily seen as a noble undertaking. People do build personal saunas in this country, but it is often because it is cheaper than buying one that is factory made. However, there are Americans who take up the task because they enjoy the building process, or they simply like the challenges that come with sauna construction.

Using Sauna Kits for Sauna Construction

The sauna kit is the perfect item for those who are not inclined to traipse through the woods looking for the perfect cedar tree or a specific type of rock. They provide the builder with the means and the knowledge necessary for sauna construction. The frame, heating source, and door are often included in sauna kits.

Building a sauna is not as common as building a shelf. Due to the fact that there are very unique issues involved in sauna construction, most experts suggest that a first-time builder consult with a manufacturer or a professional before starting the project. This ensures that the finished product will be both safe and effective.
