Luxury Homes On Maui

by Patricia Tunstall

Villas and Estates: Luxury Homes on Maui

The northeastern part of Maui land is comparatively undeveloped. This region receives much of the moisture from the tropical storms brought ashore by the northeasterly trade winds. Rainfall of around 100 inches a year is frequent. No wonder the rainforests of the Hana side of Maui are so lush, and so undisturbed.

West and South Maui have the luxury resort developments, but Hana has the verdant seclusion apparently sought by some celebrities. George Harrison had an estate in the area, and Jim Nabors's property grows scrumptious macadamia nuts, which he sells. Tucked into the isolated forests of Hana, and the green hills and valleys of Haiku farther west, are some of the most private luxury homes in Maui.

More Accessible Luxury Homes

Most luxury homes on Maui are found in the condo/residential community areas of West and South Maui. The resorts at Kapalua, Kaanapali, Wailea, and Makena have nothing but luxury residences. The areas around Lahaina/Napili, and Kihei, have some of the most affordable luxury homes on Maui. Nevertheless, a lavish home on land with an ocean view is costly.

For instance, an opulent home in Napili has 3,860 square feet of living area, and 12,624 square feet of land, with an ocean view. It is on the market for $7,950,000. In Kihei, an ocean-view home with 7,200 square feet, and 18,281 square feet of land, is for sale at $4,885,000. Remember that in Hawaii, land is often listed in square feet, rather than acres.
