Hawaii Real Estate Sales

by Patricia Tunstall

Hawaii Real Estate Sales Are Up

Currently, Hawaii is a seller's market--prices are up and good deals are not plentiful. With low mortgage rates, however, this is still a great time for selling or buying property in Hawaii. Hawaii homes are expensive, but prices started rising about three years ago, and are expected to continue rising. Buyers' interest in Hawaii real estate sales of all types of property--residences, condos, vacation homes, foreclosure homes--is fueling an increasingly competitive market.

A buyer would be wise to rely on a local real estate agent who knows when a property is reasonably priced, overpriced, or a good deal. A knowledgeable Maui real estate agent, for instance, would be intimately familiar with the Hawaii real estate sales market in Wailea, or Kapalua, or Haiku. A seller would want to entrust a property to a local real estate agent who could effectively market the property through the Multiple Listing Service and through contacts with other Maui real estate agents.

Regulations for Pets

Before relocating anywhere in the world, a buyer should check local laws, regulations, ordinances, and requirements for entry into, and residence in, a particular country. In the case of Hawaii real estate sales, a mainland buyer should also check, even though Hawaii is one of the United States. The region is a crossroads for Pacific travel, with all kinds of potential invasions by insects, non-native plants, and viruses. It is also a fragile and unique environment that is protected by restrictions and quarantines.

The State of Hawaii recently eased the restrictions for pets being brought into the Islands. Currently, a dog or pet must still be processed at Honolulu International Airport or Honolulu harbors. Pet owners may be able to take their pets with them after a few hours--if all health records and vaccinations are provided. Should all required records not be available, the pet will be subject to a costly and lengthy quarantine.
