Convention booths come in a myriad of sizes, shapes and materials. There are several factors that should be considered before finalizing the design of an exhibit. From the surface, a metal truss framework may seem like the sleek, technological solution. However, by looking deeper in the design, there are many other details to note.

What Is Drayage?

First, when companies send convention booths to industry trade shows there are regulated fees with the shipping and transfer of freight. In addition to having a freight company deliver an exhibit, there are additional charges called drayage. The drayage fees are assigned by general contractors, the labor employed by show management.

Taking convention booths from the loading dock into the conference center costs money. Usually this charge is assigned on a per 100 pound rate. The heavier the booth, the larger the charge. For a fabric paneled exhibit, this charge will be minimal. For custom exhibits this price can reach thousands of dollars.

Installation and Dismantle of Convention Booths

In addition to drayage, installation and dismantle requirements should factor into a purchasing decision. Will contract labor need to be hired in order to assemble and disassemble the exhibit? These charges are determined on a per man, per hour basis. The men needed, in combination with the duration of set up can incur hefty labor fees. Choosing a simple exhibit will save money on the purchase in addition to ongoing labor and shipping charges.
