GE Electric Motors

GE electric motors come in either AC or DC models. The AC motor utilizes an alternating current from a magnetic coil to power itself. The DC model motors use a direct current magnetic field to create the torque necessary to turn the motor shaft.

There are some applications that are better designed for AC GE electric motors, while others fair better with DC electric motors. In general, AC motors are the only thing for transformers, making them good for high power applications. Typically, DC motors are better for smaller, limited mechanisms like computer drives or those which do not require a long cable over a distance of space.

Some Common and Not-So-Common Uses for GE Electric Motors

Almost every modern home appliance can be installed with a GE electric motor. Most popular refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave manufacturers make products that are compatible with GE parts. It is a simple thing to reinstall a new motor or replace a competitor's motor with one from GE.

What few people realize is that aviation companies, power plants, chemical factories and all kinds of other high industrial companies utilize GE electric motors on a daily basis. Because GE makes so many different kinds of motors, each company will be assured the right fit and the right function for its needs. After all, the GE Company and its products have been said to shape the modern world and have certainly influenced the motor industry for years to come.
