General Electric MotorsKnown for their reliability throughout the mechanics industry, General Electric motors always bring an air of high quality to any home improvement project. Whether used for personal domestic or industrial use, these motors have more than a century of expertise behind them. Plus, with all the globally accepted GE products in the world, it is easier now than ever to fix machines with newer and more reliable GE motor parts. There are a huge number of different types of General Electric motors. The main four model types are AC, DC, ECM and Industrial AC motors. One's choice between these types depends on the application the motor will be used for and to what extent. Which General Electric Motors Are Best For the Job?AC motors are best for air moving and compressing machines, like spray washers and shop equipment that need pneumatic pressure devices to run. DC motors are best applied to machines in hazardous environments, manufacturing facilities and those meant to come into contact with water. These can include, but are not limited to, explosion proof commercial applications and machines that need washdown magnetic motors. ECM General Electric motors are in the DC motor family, yet they feature brush-less technology with built in speed and torque controls. ECM motors use a one-phase AC (alternating current) power input and uses a three phrase operational process to convert it. General Electric offers a number of different ECM models, from the original ten-year-old 2.3 blower motor to the outdoor 142 series. ![]() Get all Heating & Cooling articles via
