Alco Expansion Valves

by Sierra Rein

The current existence of the Alco Control Company is largely due to the design and success of Alco expansion valves. For years, refrigerator manufacturers utilized ammonia and carbon dioxide to cool down their machines. During that time, the Alco Valve Company promoted its only product: an automatic constant pressure expansion ammonia valve.

This one single valve revolutionized the industry and lessened the need to constantly check and adjust these machines. During the first year of manufacturing, only 500 Alco expansion valves were created and sold. However, in today's world, more than 2,000 valves are produced in one hour alone.

Today, there are a number of other Alco expansion valves in addition to the original automatic model. TXVs, or Thermo Expansion Valves, are integral to many of today's modern refrigeration units. These are designed to regulate the flow rate of the refrigerant liquid into the evaporator using the right flow-to-evaporation proportions.

Other Types of Alco Expansion Valves

You can find a variety of other models of valves, including the A-series, HFK and T-Series valves. The A-series expansion valves are perfect for heat pumps, food service, air conditioning and a large list of other commercial heating and cooling applications. All HFK valves utilize a balance port cage design that deals with a large array of operational pressures and can compensate for these variables. The T-Series lines of valves (otherwise known as the "Take-A-Part" series) use adjustable superheat components that are interchangeable and are great for replacing parts while a repairperson is on the field.
